First original Leyenda stuff were colleagues at the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid (UAM) while studying physics. In the second course (1995) they became good friends and start to share some musical cassettes and CDs. The main components of Leyenda are Fernando Martinez Estrade (lead guitar and chorus), David Ramos Fernandez (bass guitar and chorus) and Antonio Sanz Montemayor (singer and rhythm guitars). They have survived in the band from the beginning until nowadays. However, the drummer has changed many times for several reason.
Infernal was the first original name of the band in 1995 and it remained until 1999, when the first drummer leaves the band due to differences with other components. In those four years they just learnt how to play the instruments and they played in live with some audience in schools, Universities, and small bars of the city. The most important target achieved during this period was the recording of a very limited demo with 5 songs and the first apparition in a heavy metal specialised magazine and a radio program.
Until the find of another drummer, Infernal composed several songs with help of a drum machine, like the ballad "Esperame" and a couple of most popular Leyenda´s songs, like "Atlantis", as well as "Vampiro" or the epic one "Leyenda". They decided to change the name of the band to "Leyenda" because of the melodic feeling that the themes were taking (year 2000).
After six months, the great experienced Ecuadorian drummer Fabian Sarmiento appears as the new Leyenda´s drummer. He quickly learnt all the songs and they started one of the most brilliants Leyenda´s period. They plays their first big audience concerts at very good halls like "Ritmo y Compas" or "Silikona". In July of 2000 Leyenda's website is created: http://www.leyenda.es.mn to promote the band through the world providing some photos, mp3 songs, concerts dates, and all kind of news related to the band.
At this time the band decided to make a big effort recording the first studio CD demo, "Atlantis", including the following songs: "Atlantis", "Excalibur", "Soy Yo" and "Esperame". From that moment the band played live in many performances in several and different places like "Alcala-Meco" women-prison, some universities, towns festivals, and some very known concert halls of Madrid.
In November of 2001 Leyenda records the second demo including the songs: "El Ultimo Alado", "Lluvia de Metal" and "Mas Alla del Fin". Reviews from different magazines talked excellent about this work.
At the end of 2001, Fabian, the drummer, leaves the band because of professional problems.
In February of 2002 after some interminable audition tests Enrique from Brazil, joined the band demonstrating a high level. In this new stage a lot of live concerts where carry on: "Humera8", "Festipoz Festival", "Ritmo y Compas", etc, and finally they decided to record their third demo CD in July, in the famous "Ritmo y Compas" studios. The name of the demo is "Leyenda" and includes the songs: "Y Veras", "Leyenda" and "Llegare al Final".
During the summer of 2002 Leyenda got in contact with the prestige concerts hall "Caracol", and started the organisation of a heavy-metal festival. They contacted with many bands like "Crienium", "Hamelyn", "Al Borde", "Sabatan", "Abaddon", "Ankhara", "Arwen", "Dark Moor", "Red Wine", "Avatar" and "Stigma" being the finally concert names "Stigma", "Sabatan", "Al Borde" and "Leyenda". The festival was carried out in October, the 5th, and more than 300 people enjoyed a lot during all the night, specially in Leyenda's show, as "www.planetametal.com" said.
Until the end of the year Leyenda performed more concerts in "La Buena Dicha", "Alcala-Meco" women-prison again, "Rivas" and "Barajas" towns,... In those concerts Leyenda started selling custom t-shirts with a good welcome from the people.
In June of 2003 Enrique suffered a very bad illness and unfortunately he died causing a very high shock in Leyenda. After some days Leyenda decided to come back again and looked up for a new drummer. After some audition tests Ivan, Ivanhoe, a very experienced drummer came from Barcelona, joined to the band.
Reviews from people belonging to other bands ("Lujuria", "Dark Moor", "Ankhara", "Beethoven R", "Saurom Landerth") and specialised rock magazines ("Heavy Rock", "Rock Hard", "Alianza", …), radios ("El Pirata", "Radio Babel", "Discocross", "Radio Vallekas") and webzines (www.plantetametal.com, www.lujuriarock.com, www.thesentinelwebmag.com) point so far away and they think Leyenda has a very high potential. At this moment Leyenda is completely full of energy to demonstrate everyone they are a very close band, very compact and ready to eat the world.
Leyenda signs for PIES Records releasing their first album (Quintaesencia) in February 2005. Now, LEYENDA is ready to release their second album "A Medianoche" in the second half of 2006.
